Yemen’s internationally recognised government has condemned a Houthi ballistic missile attack on Aden international airport, the fourth this month.

Two missiles were fired at the airport, the government said, warning that such strikes endanger civil aviation and carry humanitarian and economic consequences for citizens who depend on it.

The Houthis have also launched a series of attacks on targets in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, fighting is intensifying around the city of Taiz, where Houthi forces are attacking government positions on the western, eastern and southern fronts. Fighters are attempting to break through from the west in a bid to take the city.

The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned of a fast-developing humanitarian emergency in Taiz, saying more than 800,000 people have been cut off from assistance. Of these, 600,000 rely on humanitarian aid and 200,000 are women and children.

The escalation between the Houthis and the Aden-based government began in early September, ending the relative calm that followed a 2022 truce.
