Rejoice!
Why do we need to rejoice?
We rejoice because our loving father continues to reconcile us back to himself. He is always there, waiting to celebrate our coming back to Him just like the prodigal son. As the scripture says "he left the place and went back to his father". The prodigal son, in the Gospel of today, lavished not just the father’s property, but also lavished his mercy, his love, his fatherly care, and when he came back to his senses, he returned to his father. Our prodigal father is always waiting for our return home. Can we also like the prodigal son, tell ourselves that "I will leave this sinful place/situation of mine and go back to my father in heaven, particularly in this season of lent"?
The Second Reading taken from 2 Colossians 5:20 says “...we are ambassadors for Christ…” Therefore, our work is that of reconciliation, bringing souls back to our father after being saved by the precious blood of the Lamb. Salvation has been given automatically through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, but each person has to be available for the salvation in order to be saved. Efforts have to be made to grow in the knowledge of Christ who is the light of life, the light that leads to salvation.
